A PPA Peek, Free Pearls and Twin Talk

Whew! What a holiday weekend! A wedding! Graduation! Four days of dog shows! I survived, but boy do I feel like I am behind. Since there are tons of things to talk about, let's get started with the Pals Paper Arts Peek. It's curled...It's pearled...It's spritzed!  I hope that you join me Thursday for the reveal.  And as a little thank-you for your comments through Thursday, I will be giving away FREE pearls to one lucky randomly selected person. The winner will be named Friday.

Twin Talk

The Twins had an eventful week, starting with a possible puppy poisoning.  As usual, they would love to tell you all about it.

Muffy:  "Hi" Mom's stamper friends.  Wait 'til you hear what happened.  Mom tried to poison us! Can you believe it?  She let us eat poisonous plants from the backyard.  She wasn't paying attention to us, so Brody and I thought we would try our paws at landscaping.  There were these big plants called "Hosta"...
Brody:  I thought you said they were "pasta", Muffy!  I didn't think they tasted like pasghetti.
Muffy:  No, Brody, I clearly and distinctly said "hosta".  And the word is "spaghetti"!   Anyway, we got rid of two of the hosta plants.  We tore the plants apart and then chased each other around the yard carrying those big leaves in our mouths.  When Mom checked on us, she wasn't very happy.  She got on her 'puter and found out that hostas can be toxic to dogs.  So she called the vet.
Brody:  And we had to drink salt water to make us lose everything in our tummies.
Muffy:  Brody got really sick.  Mom had to lay with him and pet his tummy.  I only got a little sick 'cause I'm a girl and we are stronger than boy dogs.
Brody:  It was terrible. I don't ever want to eat pasta again.
Muffy:  It's hosta, not pasta...you ninny!  Mom made Dad get rid of the hosta and some other plants listed on the "bad plant" list she found.  Now the back yard looks really ugly.
Brody:  You look really ugly!
Muffy:  That's not what the judges thought!  I was named Winner two out of the four days, and won two more points toward my Champion title.  It won't be long until I will be called "Ch. Cimarron's Do You Know the Muffin Man".
Brody:  Why would you want to be called "Chuh"?
Muffy:  It's not pronounced "chuh".  The "Ch" stands for "Champion".
Brody:  Well I was a winner, too, Muffy!  The judds think I am handsome!
Muffy:  You weren't a winner, Brody!  You were a "Reserve" Winner twice.  It just means you were the best of the losers.
Brody:  I am not  a loser.  MOM...Muffy's being mean again!

So there you have it! The vet did recommend that we "purge the puppies" just in case they had ingested hosta.  I had no idea that hosta was poisonous to dogs. For a list of poisonous plants, click HERE.  You may be surprised at what is listed.  As for the show, the Twins did a fabulous job.  Muffy was named Winners twice, winning two more points toward her title, and Mr. Brody was named Reserve twice, which is very good for a little puppy boy.  Until next time...

On the Grow with The Paper Players

It's Sunday and time to play with The Players! This week The Paper Players are hosting an "Anything Goes Challenge".  Feel free to enter any NEW creation.  As for me, with the hectic week that I have had, I opted to design something relatively quick and easy.  If the layout looks familiar, it was featured as a Buried Treasures card.  I hope you enjoy the little Scooter from On the Grow!

The Stampin' Schach Design Tips:
  • Double emboss!  The Daffodil Delight panel was zipped through the Big Shot with the Finial Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  It was then brayered with VersaMark ink and heat embossed with Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder.  The result is texture with a lovely shine!
  • Watercolor! The "Scooter" image was inked with VersaMark and stamped onto Very Vanilla card stock.  It was then heat embossed with Black Stampin' Emboss PowderBlender Pens and inks were used to quickly color the image.  Cherry Cobbler, Basic Gray, Cajun Craze, Daffodil Delight and Old Olive hues were used.

  • Vintage touches!  The edges of all layers were distressed with Crumb Cake ink.  The Seven-Sided Tool from the Cutter Kit was used to rough up the edges of the image mat.  Instant speckles were provided by the Color Spritzer Tool and a Crumb Cake Stampin' Write Marker. Instant watermarks were provided with the Watermark stamp from the French Foliage set.
  • Diamonds, Pearls and Lace! For just a touch of sparkle, Dazzling Diamonds were added to the seat, headlight, and tire rims of the scooter.  Basic Pearls bedeck the Scallop Trim Border Punch and accent the flowers.  A snippet of Victoria Crochet Trim was threaded through the Old Olive Satin Ribbon Bow and was also scrunchied!

This card will be heading to the Chicago area to Brittney Jade Colangelo of The Schach Pack, my downline group.  Brittney just celebrated her birthday.  I hope she likes it.  How about you?  What do you think about today's card?  Please let me know in your comment today.  And remember, if you ever have a question about the cards that I create or the techniques I use, I am only an email away.  Until next time...

A Peek at The Players

Saturday brings us our weekly sneak peek at The Paper Players Design Team card.  It's bright!  It's vintage! I will be interested in reading what you think when you see the reveal on Sunday.  In the meantime, don't forget to check out The Paper Players Cuts Above and Headliner. These will be posted today.

As many of you know, I am attending my niece's wedding and the Twins' shows this weekend.  Unfortunately I will have limited access to my computer.  I am already missing you!  If you email me I will get back to you as soon as I can.  Until next time...

Buried Treasure

Ahoy, mateys! I followed the Treasure Map this week to July 8, 2009 where I dug up this  fabulous, versatile sketch for you. Click HERE for the original details.  I liked this sketch so much, I used it again and again.  Let's take a look at another version of it, which appeared on July 11.  Click HERE to learn more about this card.

Think of the updating possibilities!

Layout Options: This layout is perfect for cards where you wish to showcase images that have a coordinating sentiment, image or embellishment. This is also the perfect layout for showcasing coordinating patterns of Designer Series Paper.  From the Summer Mini, The Open Sea, Touch of Kindness and Strength and Hope are three viable stamp set choices.  From the Idea Book and Catalog, Artistic Etchings, Just Believe, florals and butterflies ...the list is endless.

Embellishment Updates:  A trio of Pearls?  Baker's Twine? Big Designer Buttons? Border Punches? Depending on the style of your card, Vintage Trinkets, Antique Brads and lace are also great choices for creating a vintage look.

Techniques: Curl the corners of the central image and distress the edges, too! How beautiful would it be to use the Inlaid Embossing technique on the back panel! Emboss Resist the image!  Zip the horizontal strip through the Big Shot with a Textured Impressions Embossing Folder!  How about framing the back panel with the Framed Tulips folder?  Just let your imagination soar!
I hope you enjoyed this card from my past...even though my cardmaking past only goes back to 2009! And I hope that you take the time to examine your card making past to see what Buried Treasure you have, just waiting for you to work your updating magic.  As always, your comments are important to me, so take a few minutes, if Blogger allows, to let me know what you think about today's layout...or even just to say "Hi!" And if you ever have any questions about the cards that I make or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away.  Just give me a holler...or email if it's easier! Until next time...

Thank You, Teacher for the Pals

Thursdays are always special here at The Stampin' Schach because I get to reveal my Design Team Inspiration card.  This week our challenge is Clean and Simple Elements of Style...Brads.  This week  I have designed a Thank You card for all of the teachers who frequent my blog.  I know first hand how hard you work and how much you care.

The Stampin' Schach Design Tips:
  • Dare to try! I had never tried the Stampin' Up! Builder Wheels, but how cute is this adorable apple "For Teacher" design paired with "Elementary Alphabet".  Must haves are the Builder Wheel Spindle and Spacers, the Triple Cell Cartridge, and for me, the Stampin' Around Wheel Guide, to help me do straight "wheelies".  Colors of choice...Cherry Cobbler and Basic Black stamped onto Naturals Ivory card stock.
  • Texture! My Crumb Cake card base was zipped through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  A small strip of Cherry Cobbler card stock was added to the bottom to compensate for the minimal loss of length due to embossing and to add an easy design element.
  • Head for the borders!  Cherry Cobbler Scallop Trim Borders flank both sides of the image, while Basic Black Dotted Scallop Ribbon Borders were stitched with Cherry Cobbler/White Baker's Twine.  Pressed for time?  Omit the stitching!
  • Finishing touches! The "Thank You for Being You" sentiment from the Bold Blossom set was selectively inked using a Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker, stamped onto Naturals Ivory card stock, and layered onto a Basic Black Decorative Label.  Three Basic Black Glimmer Brads balance the layout.

This was my first experimentation with using Builder Wheels.  How fun! I was a little afraid to use them...afraid that they would not stamp correctly.  Boy was I in for a surprise! They were sooo easy! So what do you think of today's card? Remember, your comments are important to me.  And as always, I freely share what I know. So if you ever have a question about the cards that I make or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away! Until next time...

Stamp Sets:  Bold Blossom (W 123232, C 122232---Summer Mini), Elementary Alphabet Builder Wheel (123229---Summer Mini), For Teacher Builder Wheel (123230---Summer Mini);  Inks:  Basic Black Classic Refill (102512),  Cherry Cobbler Classic Refill (119788), Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker (100082); Card Stock:  Crumb Cake (120953), Cherry Cobbler (119685), Naturals Ivory (101849), Basic Black (121045);  Tools:  Big Shot (113439), Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (119976), Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch (119275), Scallop Trim Border Punch (118402), Decorative Label Punch (120907), Triple Cell Cartridge (121206), Stampin' Around Jumbo Handle (103661), Wheel Guide (104834), Builder Wheel Spindle and Spacers (119895);  Glitz and Glam:  Cherry Cobbler/White Baker's Twine (123125---Summer Mini), Glimmer Basics Brads (121003)

Stylish Blogger Award and Six New Blogs I Have Discovered

Jackie Watson, of Creative Designs by Jackie, recently awarded me the Stylish Blogger Award.  To quote Jackie:  "I love your blog and tips and most of all the adventures of the Twins."  Isn't she so sweet...she loves my furbabies, and their shenanigans!

I always appreciate receiving these awards for two reasons.  First of all, it lets me know that people really are visiting The Stampin' Schach and that you are being inspired in some way.  I guess that is still the teacher in me...I want to inspire; I want you to learn at least one new piece of information.  Secondly, it allows me to share other stampers' blogs with you.

This time around, I searched out stampers who are relatively new to me.  I hope you enjoy them, and that you will leave them a little of the same sweetness that you leave me!  Here we go, in no particular order:

Lauri Ingram - Paperville
Maria Vanderform - Crafty Maria's Stamping World
Sandra Azzopardi - Sandra's Stamping Spot
Sandie Conner - Pretty Provisions
Tere Giardano - Stamp with Tere
Carrie Sampsel - Carries Scrapyard

Remember, your comments are so very important to me. If you ever have any questions about the cards that I create or techniques or Stampin' Up! products, I am only an email away.  Until next time...

Twin Talk ---Back Home from Indiana

It was an exciting weekend for the Twins as they travelled to Indiana.  They both came back anxious to tell you all about it!  I will let them talk while I go take pictures of this week's PPA card.

Muffy:  See all my pretty ribbons, Brody?  See the pretty blue and white ones?  Those are my "Best of Winners" ribbons.  Do you know what means, Brody?  It means I am prettier than you!
Brody:  I don't want to be pretty, Muffy.  I am a boy, and I am handsome!  I even got to be a "Preserve Wiener" this weekend.  Michelle the Handler said that the judd was really watching me.
Muffy:  You know, Brody, I've told you before that the correct term is "Reserve Winner".  It means you weren't quite pretty enough to be the Winner.  Too bad.
Brody:  But Muffy, if you were Best of Winners, why weren't you Best of Breed?
Muffy:  I wasn't Best of Breed because there was some other old champion dog there.  I felt sorry for her 'cause she was so old and decrepit. She was like 3 years old.  Eew!
Brody:  How did you know her name was Dee?  What did Dee keep?  Why did she keep it?
Muffy:  Brody, the word is "decrepit" not "Dee kept it".  You need to read more books so your vocabulary grows.
Brody:  I'm just waiting for my chest and butt to grow so I can become a winner.
Muffy:  If you live that long and Mom doesn't give you away.
Brody:  Why would Mom give me away?  I'm a goooood  boooy!
Muffy:  'Cause you almost ordered a movie using the 'mote while she and I were out on my walk.  I heard her tell Dad about it.  You took the TV 'mote controller and pushed all of the buttons until you came up with a Pay-Per-View movie.  And I don't think it was rated PG.
Brody:  What does PG mean?
Muffy:  It means Puppy Girls can watch it.  You picked one that was rated "R" which means that only Really old dogs can watch it.  You would have owed Mom $4.99.  That is almost how much a bag of Charlie Bear treats cost.
Brody:  But I don't have any money.  How could I have paid Mom?
Muffy:  You couldn't have.  So Mom would have had the police come to throw you in jail.  You would have been a felon.
Brody:  You mean I would have turned into a cat?
Muffy:  No, you DUMMY!  It's felon, not feline!
Brody:  MOM...Muffy called me a dummy!
Me: Muffy Lin...Have you been teasing your brother AGAIN!
Muffy:  No, Mom!  I just asked him if he would like something "yummy"!  Shhhh...Come on, Brody...I will go open up the pantry door and you can jump up and grab the bag of Charlie Bears!

So there you have it.  Smarty pants Muffy won Winners Female and Best of Winners and earned 2 more points toward her champion title.  She now has 4 points out of the 15 needed, which is not bad for a 9 month old puppy.  Plus, Michelle the Handler bought Muffy her very own "big girl" show lead.  The little "Diva Dog" will not have to share.  Brody had a fabulous show, and was Reserve Winners Dog on Sunday, which is very good for a little boy puppy who hasn't gotten his chest and butt yet.  For their efforts, Michelle took them shopping, and they received a brand new toy and deer antlers on which to chew!  And yes...Brody really did manipulate the remote and had a movie all ready to watch.  All he needed was just one more push of the right button.  As for the pantry door, doesn't every dog owner want a dog who can open the pantry door and get their own treats...as well as chips and cookies and cereal???

Brody is all tuckered-out after his weekend.

Muffy is fighting off sleep and can barely keep her eyes open.

This week will find me preparing for a busy, busy weekend.  The Twins will be showing Friday through Monday, and my niece is getting married.  So if I am missing in action...you will know what is happening! Until next time...

Fabulous Florets for the Players

It's Sunday and time to play with The Paper Players.  This week is a sketch challenge, courtesy of the talented Nance Leedy.  Remember that you can flip the sketch if you desire.  I actually selected flowers and a butterfly to represent the circular elements on the side of the central image circle.  I hope you enjoy these sparkly "Fabulous Florets"!

The Stampin' Schach Design Tips:
  • Fabulous Florets! The "Floret" stamps from Fabulous Florets were inked with VersaMark and stamped onto Whisper White. They were then heat embossed with the new Melon Mambo Stampin' Emboss Powder. Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight inks were applied using Sponge Daubers. As for the leaves, they were heat embossed with Wild Wasabi Stampin' Emboss Powder and sponged with Wild Wasabi ink.

  • Glitter! You can become a glitter guru, too! It is so easy to apply Dazzling Diamonds using the 2-Way Glue Pen.  Simply coat the surface using the built-in applicator tip, sprinkle with glitter, and shake off the excess.  As you can see, the results are just "dazzling"!
  • It don't mean a thing, if it ain't got that bling!  And what better way to bling it on than by using Basic Rhinestones.  They are just perfect for the Pacific Point "Butterfly" from Strength and Hope.

  • Simple sentiment!  I felt the "Thinking of You" sentiment from On the Grow needed a little matting assistance.  Enter the Cog Punch and the 3/4" x 15/16" Oval Punch.  A small Pacific Point cog was layered onto a Melon Mambo oval, and accented with Basic Rhinestones.
  •
My goal in designing this card was to create something fresh and summery!  What do you think? Did I accomplish it?  Let me know in your comment today!  Your comments are important to me, and I do read each and every one of them.  And remember, if you ever have any questions about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away! Until next time...

A Peek at the Players

Happy Saturday! Here's a little peek at tomorrow's Paper Players Design Team card.  I hope you will join me tomorrow for the reveal.  To tide you over, however, head on over to The Paper Players and check out the winners of Challenge #46...A Color Challenge!

Hopefully I will be able to get some serious stamping done today.  The Twins are a state-and-a-half away in Indiana, Brady the Boy is in Chicago attending a performance of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Kim the Husband is at work.  I think I will celebrate with a low-fat mocha...perfect for a gray and rainy morning! Woo hoo!

I will leave you with this cute picture of the dove that built a nest on my neighbor's downspout.
She has two little "peeps", one facing forward, and one sheltered under her wing, with its little birdie butt to the camera.  The Twins have to check them out every morning!

Buried Treasure and Rhinestone Winner

Ahoy, Matey! It's Friday and time for another Buried Treasure! This "blast from the past" first appeared on the Stampin' Schach on July 18, 2009. For the original details, click HERE.   Its simple layout is perfect for whenever you want the image to take center stage.  Classy and timeless, it is worthy of a second look...and a face lift!

Layout Options:
Showcase those fabulous Designer Series Papers with this layout.  Not a fan of embossing folders?  No problem...just coordinate the patterns! Lookout Paisley Petals...here I come!  Instead of the Eyelet Border Punch, how about the Scallop Trim Border Punch with Basic Pearls, of course! A double dose of Tasteful Trim Large Scallops would look fabulous!  Matting the embossed panel would give a tailored, finished look.

Embellishment Options:
You can never go wrong with Basic Pearls! And depending on the theme of the card or subject of the image, bring out the Antique Brads and Vintage Trinkets.  What was I thinking using that skinny ribbon? A bow created from Satin Ribbon would look awesome, or maybe scrunchy up some Seam Binding for a casual chic look. Fan-fold flowers, anyone?

Technique Options:
Random stamping for a background? Inlaid embossing? Double embossing? Watercolored images?  Distressing? Faux silk? Faux wood? The uncluttered layout is perfect to show off a variety of techniques best suited for large areas.

When I was teaching, it was important to reflect upon my teaching, and the same thing can be said of card making.  What worked and what didn't work?  What would I do differently next time? Examining our work in this manner can definitely help us grow in our craft! How about you? Do you have any Buried Treasure just waiting to be re-discovered? I am challenging you to pull out one of your older cards and give it a face lift!

Rhinestone Winner

I went to Random.org for a little random number assistance!  Congrats to #41:  Vonnie.  Here is what Vonnie said:

Love this card, it is so pretty.
Yvonne

Just email your address to me, Yvonne, and I will send your rhinestones out immediately!

I hope you enjoyed the Buried Treasure I dug up for you...and I hope that you will join me tomorrow for my "Peek at The Players" card.  I am home this weekend, as the Twins are travelling too far for Mom to watch them show.  However, if you are in the Greentown, IN area, stop by and tell them "Hi"! They do not know a stranger, and are always up for a scratch behind the ears or a chuck under the chin.  Until next time...

Hope for the Pals PPA94

It's time to play at Pals Paper Arts! This week is a sketch designed by the talented Margaret Moody.  I did take the liberty of interpreting this sketch a little differently from my other Pals Design Team members.  As you can see, the sketch has three circular elements.  At first, I was going to place three fan-fold flowers down the center of the card.  However, they did not fit well.  At this point, my son, Brady, gave me the idea of showing fan-fold flowers in various stages of bloom.  The flower with the butterfly represents the top circle.  The partially opened flowers represent the other two circles.  I hope this card inspires you to think outside the box!

The Stampin' Schach Design Tips:
  • Finished seams! Giving the interfaces between designer paper patterns a finished look is easy.  A Sponge Dauber and Soft Suede ink is one way to do the trick; a string of Basic Pearls is another!
  • Accent a sentiment! "Thinking of you" from On the Grow was inked in Cherry Cobbler and stamped onto Naturals Ivory"Swirls" from the Swirls Scribbles Sizzlits die magically draw the eye to it.
  • Swirly stems! This same fabulous Sizzlits die was also used to form the stems of the fan-fold flowers.
  • Butterfly bling! Three different sizes of Basic Pearls are perfect for forming the abdomen of the Butterfly from Strength and Hope.

I hope that you enjoyed today's card and that you will join us in this week's Pals Paper Arts challenge.  And remember, your comments are important to me! So won't you please let me know what you think of today's card? As always, if you ever have any questions about the cards that I create or the techniques I use, I am only an email away! Tomorrow:  Rhinestone Winner and Buried Treasure.  Until next time...

Stamp Sets: On the Grow (W 123075, C 123077), Strength & Hope (W 118100, C 123600---Summer Mini);  Inks:  Cherry Cobbler (119669), Soft Suede (119657);  Designer Series Paper:  Paisley Petals (Available July 1st);  Card Stock:  Cherry Cobbler (119685), Naturals Ivory (101849), Peach Parfait (119794); Tools:  Big Shot (113439), Swirls Scribbles Sizzlits (113441), Sponge Dauber (102892), 1-3/8" x 5/8" Oval Punch (119863), 1-3/4" x  7/8" Oval Punch (119855), Scallop Oval Punch (119856), 1-3/4" Scallop Circle Punch (119854);  Glitz and Glam:  Basic Pearls (119247)
