A Paper Player Peek, Free Pearls, and a Parade

Saturday means its time to take a peek at this week's The Paper Players inspiration card. It's been "blinged" and "textured" as you can see!  I hope that you will join me tomorrow for its reveal.  I will be interested in reading your comments, as it uses one of the sets from the new Summer Mini, which goes live May 1st.  Speaking of the Summer Mini, out of all of the new products in it, which one is your favorite?  Since I can't narrow it down to just one item, I would have to select The Open Sea stamp set, the Sail Away stamp, and the Nautical Expedition Designer Series Paper.  Your comments today and tomorrow will earn you a chance to win FREE Basic Pearls!

Let the Parade of Birthday Cards Continue!

Yesterday I shared some of the fabulous cards that I received for my recent birthday.  Today I would love to share even more.  I know that you will be just as impressed with these as I am!

I hope you enjoyed these cards as much as I!  It's a busy weekend at the Schach's! Brady has a concert Saturday evening, and the Twins are showing both Saturday and Sunday.  A mere 4-1/2 hours separate the two venues, so a lot of my time will be spent on the road.  The Twins show early and Brady plays late.  Plus I was up in time to watch the Royal Wedding live.  I'm tired already!

And speaking of Brady playing, I know that several of you had wanted to hear excerpts from his Junior trumpet recital. I tried to keep a list, but  if I over-looked you, and you did not receive excerpts but would like to, please email me.  It's not perfect, but for someone who used to suffer from performance anxiety, it isn't bad either.

In closing, remember...your comments are important to me.  So please, share with me...and I will share my Pearls with you.  And as always, if you ever have any questions about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away! Until next time...

Buried Treasure and Birthday Parade Part 1

It's time for our Friday feature, Buried Treasure.  This week's card from the past first appeared on The Stampin' Schach on Thursday, June 4th, 2009.  I dug up this "pirate's booty" because of its classic Mojo layout.  Click Here to read the original details.

Layout Options:  This layout is perfect for cards where you wish to showcase a sentiment. Plus, the vertical panel on the right is tailor-made for a variety of floral sets, such as Fabulous Florets from the Summer Mini or Just Believe from the 2010 - 2011 Idea Book and Catalog.  Give it a masculine vibe by using the tall pine from Lovely as a Tree!  Go shabby with the Eiffel Tower from Artistic Etchings!

Embellishment Updates:   Scrunchy ribbon or lace can add an instant face lift!  A fabulous fan-fold flower or rosette on which to perch a bejeweled butterfly adds pizzazz!

Techniques:  How beautiful would it be to use Inlaid Embossing or the Faux Silk technique on the back panel!  Emboss Resist the image...or even the sentiment!  Create your own background paper by randomly stamping!

How about you?  Do you have a Buried Treasure you need to revive?  I'm already envisioning the possibilities with this card!

Birthday Card Parade, Part 1

I received so many fabulous cards for my birthday, I just had to share some of them with you today and tomorrow.  Thank you so much for all of the well-wishes and sweetness in your comments. And thank you for the email cards, too! I LOVE being a part of such a wonderful stamping community!

Proud as a Peacock for the Pals PPA91

It's Thursday and time to play at Pals Paper Arts!  What could be better to get those creative juices flowing than an Elements of Style Challenge featuring Buttons!  I am using a new set from Stampin' Up!'s Summer Mini catalog, which goes live May 1st,  entitled Proud Peacock.  I will be anxious to hear what you think of this set! So...let's get right to the design tips!
Ppa91buttons
The Stampin' Schach Stampin' Tips:
  • Random Stamping! The "Floral" image from Proud Peacock was inked in Jet Black StazOn onto Whisper White card stock. Stampin' Write Markers in Pacific Point, Melon Mambo and Old Olive were used for coloring. I simply outlined with the marker, and spread the color with a Blender Pen! The "Peacock" image was colored in exactly the same way!
  • Focal Point!  The Peacock was perched into a place of honor upon a Melon Mambo Dotted Pattern Paper rosette, which was anchored onto an Old Olive 2-3/8" Scallop Circle.
  • Pearls! Basic Pearls adorn the Peacock, the Flowers and the edges of the Scallop Circle to add a touch of elegance!
  • Button Blossom! A Melon Mambo and Whisper White Blossom was punched using the new Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch.  A Pacific Point Button, left over from the Sale-A-Bration Ice Cream Parlor Button Pack, was adhered to the middle.   Although this item is no longer available, Daffodil Delight or Old Olive buttons from the Brights Designer Buttons collection would be perfect substitutes!
  • Ribbon and Twine!  Who can resist Old Olive Satin Ribbon when it is scrunchied to perfection?  All I did was pull a thread and shirr!  White Baker's Twine forms the perfect accent to set off the button!

Bright colors were selected to complement the whimsical nature of this set, while pearls and ribbon bespeak elegance. Won't you please leave me a comment and let me know what you think about today's card?  And as always, if you ever have  question about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away.  Until next time...

Twin Talk, Blog Candy, and a CASE

One of the perks of being a Stampin' Up! demonstrator is that you automatically receive the monthly publication,  Stampin' Success! One of the features which I love are the various cards that are presented.  Today's card is a CASE of one of these cards.  I demonstrated this card at one of my recent workshops, and everyone who attended actually made one as one of their make and takes. If you would like to join me as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, and start receiving your own copies of Stampin' Success, email me today!

A little tip on adding the yummy Dazzling Diamonds:  Use a Two-Way Glue Pen!

Twin Talk

Muffy and Brody swept the blues in their classes at their latest show in Waterloo, Iowa on April 23rd.  The Twins assured me that they would be able to tell you all about it without any sibling rivalry.  We'll see!

Brody:  I get to talk first because it's my turn to be alpha dog.  My favorite puppy friend was in the ring with me, but I was a good boy and didn't do a play bow or anything.  And the judd was..
Muffy:  Brody, it's the "judge".  How many times do I have to tell you that?  The Judds are..
Brody:  Muffy, I'm telling the story, and in my story it's the judd.  Anyway the judd was really tall and kind of scary, so I was on my best behavior.  Lots of people looked at me before I went in the ring because they said my butt was getting bigger and that I was starting to lose my puppy fat.
Muffy:  My butt is still bigger and I have a bigger chest.  And I ...
Brody:  But my head is prettier and it always will be.  Your head is still ugly and has white on it.  And you have those ugly white socks and fat feet...
Mom: Brody!
Brody:  Anyway, the judd liked me the best, and I got another pretty blue ribbon.
Muffy:  Well I got a blue ribbon AND a purple ribbon with white on it, too, 'cause I beat out a bunch of other dogs and was named Reserve Winner.
Brody:  Muffy is a preserved weiner! Muffy is a preserved weiner!
Muffy:  It's Reserve W-I-N-N-E-R, Brody! It means I got second out of all the other girl dogs who won their classes.  Like Martha Stewart would say, "It's a good thing!"
Brody:  I know Martha Stewart.  She is one of Mom's card making friends.
Muffy:  Not that Martha Stewart, Brody!  The other Martha Stewart that is on TV.
Brody:  She makes her own dog treats!
Muffy:  Speaking of dog treats, did you know that Mom is offering Dog Candy.
Brody:  DOG CANDY???
Muffy:  Yes.  I heard her say something about giving away Dog Candy if people left comments on her blog.   Here's a picture of it!

Brody:  That doesn't look like very good dog candy to me.  But there are some pearls.  I LOVE pearls.  They look so pretty on my butt.
Muffy:  And look at that card.  It doesn't look like Mom distressed it.  Maybe I should help her out.
Brody:  Hey, Muffy! There are some stamps sets, too.  Remember when I ate some of Mom's stamps... at least the wood parts. Let's go get into some of Mom's stuff.  I feel like chewing.
Muffy:  Sounds like a good idea, Brody! I want some more of those sponges like I ate yesterday.  Last one into the stamp room is a...
Mom:  Twins!!!

Well, there you have it! The Twins had a fabulous show, and I am offering BLOG Candy...not Dog Candy.  The winner will be randomly selected from all comments left on The Stampin' Schach from  April 22nd through April 26th, and announced on April 27th.  For complete details on what is included in the Blog Candy, click HERE.  Until next time...

Sailing with The Paper Players

It's Sunday and time for a fabulous Paper Players Sketch designed by Lesley! I used this opportunity to ink up Stampin' Up!'s Sail Away stamp, and engage in a little emboss resist! I hope that you will enjoy Sailing with The Paper Players and join us in our challenge this week!

The Stampin' Schach Stampin' Tips:
  • Who can resist the Emboss Resist technique! I prefer Naturals Ivory, White Stampin' Emboss Powder and Crumb Cake ink.  If you are new to the technique, here is a video tutorial from earlier this year to explain how it's done:

Looking for the Vintage look???
  • Curl the corners! I simply wrap and unwrap corners around a Stylus until the paper fibers break down.  I then separate the layers and re-curl!
  • Distress the edges! Soft Suede ink and a Sponge Dauber work wonders in adding a nice patina to the edges of all layers.
  • It's all in the details! An adorable Vintage Trinkets Safety Pin adorns a Hemp Twine bow! An Antique Brad adds interest to a corner.
  • Spritz it! The Color Spritzer Tool, paired with a Soft Suede Stampin' Write Marker, ages paper instantly.  And with the CST, practice makes perfect!
  • Anchors aweigh! Emboss resist Anchors, from the Open Sea stamp set, receive the unexpected with a twist of Hemp Twine!
What do you think of today's monochromatic vintage card?  Won't you leave me a comment and let me know?  And remember, if you ever have any questions about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away!  Until next time...
